19th century: tiny, knitted doll's cardigan
1906: a sari length of fine cotton, and a turban length of indigo blue cotton, gifted by the Indian Spinning & Weaving Association to the Earl of Minto during his tenure as the Viceroy and Governor-General of India (1905-1910).
A letter on headed paper from the Government House, Calcutta accompanying these is dated 22 December 1906.
Gilbert John Eliot-Murray-Kynynmound was the 4th Earl of Minto, KG GCSI GCMG GCIE PC (9 July 1845-1 March 1914). He was a British aristocrat and politician who served as Governor General of Canada, the eighth since Canadian Confederation, and as Viceroy and Governor-General of India, the country's 17th.
